Administrative Assistants Week - A National Appreciation Week

Every ending week of April we celebrate (in USA) Administrative Professional Week.

What would you send to the person assisting you all year round in all your professional endeavors?

Nothing says thank you for a job well done like a gift of colorful flowers! or a piece of nature to have at their desk.

Since 1952, Secretary of Commerce Charles Sawyer proclaimed the first observance of National Secretaries Week as June 1st to 7th. This date was changed shortly after in 1955 to its current date and its name was also updated to Administrative Professional Week

Admin Assistants take charge of all the little pieces that amount to a lot at the end, they make possible the engine is greased so everything works within your organization. They take notes, remind you of all your pending tasks, keep your calendar up to date, get your breakfast, order your lunch, write and review your documents, and in many occasions they even go to the extreme of taking care of your personal diligences, how about even sending flowers to your wife on your anniversary?!

Admins take their personal service seriously taking care of all your needs at work and even easing up your daily tasks. Tell them how much they are appreciated this week; you have a whole week to remember and remind them of your appreciation for their dedication and hard work.

Here are seven other ways to make them feel appreciated:

  1. Give them an afternoon off after taking them out to lunch
  2. Recognize them in public (even if virtually)
  3. Start the day by treating them to coffee or breakfast
  4. Send them a Gift Basket
  5. Surprise them with a green plant on their desk
  6. Create a Peer Recognition Video
  7. Give her/him a hand-written Card (from everyone at the office)
